TIME TO FEEL PRETTY
Annie sat down in the makeup artist’s chair during her photo shoot last week. “I think this is the first time I’ve worn makeup since… before quarantine,” she said.
During her makeover I watched her relax, and giggle. When her hairstylist finished her mermaid-like waves and her makeup artist finished her timeless makeup, I watched her come alive in a new way in front of the mirror. Then she put on the piece she’d brought especially for this shoot: her great-grandmother’s emerald cocktail dress. It was in mint condition, and it fit her perfectly.
I’d just finished her mom and sister’s first portraits, and we were all having a wonderful time. I could tell she’d been a bit nervous at first - as everyone is when they step into a photography studio - but watching her mom admire her in that gown and seeing her twirl and feel PRETTY made that all fade away.
It’s easy to overthink “feeling pretty.” It’s easy to underestimate its power, too. “Pretty” feels different to each of us in different stages of life. But the power lives in our own discernment that pinpoints what makes us feel our best and show up in our fullest way! For some women, it’s professional hair and makeup, a wardrobe of dresses, and an afternoon devoted to celebrating their beauty. That’s why we do Luxe Portrait shoots. Yes, the photos are wonderful to gift and cherish, but the experience is really the most impactful part.
Have you taken the TIME to feel your version of “pretty” lately? Let me come alongside you for a moment and remind you how important that is, especially in a month/year/season like the one we’re all in now. Check in with yourself. Celebrate yourself. Take the steps you need to so you can show up in your best way. It’s really pretty simple - we just have to do it!
I’m thankful for this afternoon with Annie and the other beautiful women in her family, for pretty dresses and pearls and laughter, for connection and for love and for LIFE.
If a photo shoot with me would help you take the time to feel pretty, I hope you’ll reach out so we can set a date and have our own wonderful day together.
Sincerely,
Mitzi
